Flaming Gorge Trip

This year for our September Trip in our RV we went to Flaming Gorge
National Recreation Area and Bear Lake, both in Utah.  Then we
headed home by way of Salmon, Idaho

Coming out of Pendleton, OR looking down from the pass

We stayed in Declo, ID the second night at an RV spot
called Village of the Trees

Pretty grounds

and flat sites

Taking a load off

Then on to Utah

Just as pretty scenery

We stayed in a campground in Manila, UT

Our first full day in Manila was Friday before the
long Labor Day weekend so we decided to rent
a boat and see the lake before there weren't any to rent

We putted around the lake for a while looking for Red Canyon

After asking some fishing people we found it

It is spectacular

definitely a recreation area

Antelope, just along the road
Then came the parade on Saturday

The kids all had these huge bags to catch all the
candy the people on the floats through out

Tractors

old cars

and old fire trucks, Oh My!!

We drove up to Red Canyon Rim

The same canyon we were in on the water the day before

Big Horn Sheep along the side of the road

They had some nice lookouts on the rim trail

We got our two mile walk in that day

Cart Creek Bridge over one of the tributaries that feeds
into Flaming Gorge Reservoir

Flaming Gorge Dam

The canyon had some really beautiful rock formations

and pretty streams

I wonder what happened back then to make the rocks
curve like this

Doug, Jan, Mickie, Don, and Walt

After dinner card game

One of the five days we were in Manila Walt and I
hiked along the Green River below the Flaming Gorge Dam

Not a bad hike, but it was hot

The river is beautiful

and you can see why it's called the Green River

See the fish?

Some of the trail was wood because
the river rises up to four feet
and the trails get washed out

In spots there is chicken wire around the rocks
to keep them from washing away

This is the trail we came down and now are going back up

Pretty rocky

and steep
More dinner, more cards, more drinks

On to the city of Green River, UT
Haystack Hills

It was strange to see a city out there in the middle of
no where.  We came around this hill and there it was
tucked down between more hills

Pretty good sized city too

Bear Lake, UT
The lake was the color of the Caribbean

Our sites were very level

Mickie, Don, Walt, and I took a bike ride one day

A 10 mile bike ride
Oh, we had to stop on the trail to get one of
Bear Lake's famous Raspberry Shake, and some home cut fries

We made it back to camp

Off to Salmon, Idaho along the Bitteroot Mtn Range

A park ranger at Red Canyon Rim trail told Mickie
about this campground in Salmon, ID
so we decided to try it

16 sites on the Snake River
It was like a park

We saw a bald eagle

Big Horn sheep climbing these cliffs

and fished in the river

It was a fun and beautiful trip with family and friends!!

  1. Wow!!! Beautiful scenery! Looks like you had great weather and a great time :) You need to ask Kurt about the geography of that one area and why that would happen ;) Looking forward to hearing all about the trip :) See you soon!
